We purchased and moved into our house on Castleguard just a few months after getting married in 2011. We were instantly in love with the house and I thought we'd live there forever! Over the next few years we made some improvements to the house such as having a new roof put on, we added spray-in insulation to the attic, had new windows installed, put on a new front door, sliding glass door and carriage style garage door, we installed some additional cabinets in the kitchen, and put in a new vanity in the downstairs bathroom. There's probably a few other things I'm forgetting, but no major changes. Despite painting and customizing our rooms to match our taste, there were some things we just couldn't change, like the lack of closet space all over the house, the one tiny bathroom on the bedroom level and the closed off, non-functional kitchen.
After much discussion we decided we should contact our Realtor and see if we could find a house that would better suit our needs. Much like the TV show "Love it or List it", we put together a list of "must haves" in order to get us to move:
South Burlington
4 bedrooms on the same floor (I wanted the two spare rooms to be of fairly equal so our future kids wouldn't fight over who got the 'good' room)
Main bathroom with double vanity (or space for)
Ensuite bathroom (or space for)
Walk in closet in master bedroom (or space for)
Open concept living room/dining room/kitchen
Room for Ty's gym equipment
Finished basement area for TV room
Basement bathroom (or space for)
Storage area in basement
Double car driveway & garage
Yard no smaller than our current yard
Since the 1960-1970's homes of south Burlington weren't built with the features we were looking for, we knew we were looking for home with the right bones that we could renovate to have the features we wanted without breaking the bank. So the hunt began...
Shortly after getting married in 2011, Tyler & I bought our first house. While I thought we'd live there forever, 3 short years later we decided to uproot and take on our biggest challenge yet.
Follow along as we transform our 1960's all original into our custom dream home.
